About COI

For common guidelines on conflicts of interest (COI) in medical research, please refer to this page (Japanese Diabetes Society – COI Guidelines).

In Japan, industry-academia collaboration is promoted as part of efforts to become a nation built on scientific and technological innovation. Collaborative research and technology transfer with companies are to be properly promoted to return research results from universities and public research institutions to society.

On the other hand, when multiple activities are carried out, conflicts of interest can arise among involved individuals and institutions. This is inevitable and unavoidable as research activities and industry-academia collaboration become more active.

Therefore, appropriate COI management, including disclosure, is conducted in collaborative research courses.

*For guidelines on research, refer to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
